Why We're Going to Meet the Doulas & You Should Too
/When it comes to the birth of your child, more options are better.
On January 27th, 2016, Columbia Memorial Hospital is opening it's doors to doulas.
This is huge.
By agreeing to host us, they are sending out an inquiry to the community that says, "Do you want doulas? Is this an option you want?" They are asking you what you want.
And by attending this event, you, the families we love, the people of Astoria, can say, "Why yes, we do want trained birth ninjas attending to our every need and helping us feel comfortable and powerful through our entire birth."
On top of the fact that you can come to ask questions, get answers, learn what doulas do and do not (for example, we do provide support and relief but we do not provide medical care), what we can do to support unmedicated births as well as epidurals and c-sections, pick a favorite doula to attend your upcoming birth, and enjoy a delicious assortment of cheeses, you can tell the hospital that you want to see more doulas around generally.
Your voice and presence can be used to advocate for women and families that don't even know what doulas are yet (and I bet they'll be grateful).
You're welcome to bring your family, your friends, and your children. We'd love to meet them all. Check out the event details here.
Cordially,
Rebeckah Orton, Birth Doula and Owner of North Star Doula Service, LLC
